2 August 2011 #18 a continual bike riders dream even - Paris

A Parisian Native
Food - almond croissants! That’s better, I’m back to my one a day, I can’t believe that I went for almost a month before finding boulangeries that had them, not very French at all!
Weather - still a bit of rain, then again the sun is out so no complaints there! It has been bliss to be out on my little circus bike and seeing the sights. There is always plenty to do and just glad that the weather is playing along.
Mode of Transport -  Ralph Lauren’s 17 cars in the Louvre - umm that boy has a few coins! Just amazing to see cars a select group of his cars from the 1920’s through to the 1990’s. Everyone looks like they’ve just rolled off the showroom floor. Needless to say hundreds of people are in there daily but still it is grand to see them, PS NO photos allowed so you’ll just have to take my blurred (on purpose) photo of the one-off Mercedes SSK Count Trossi, who it was made for, glorious!
Conversation - “chocolat chaud s’il vous plait” - since the coffee is so awful in France, acquired taste I’m sure, my morning hot chocolate is the winner!
Animal - out at Versailles, I went out there again the other day and there were grand horses! I’m sure in ‘those days’ when they had acres upon acres of land to travel they had more than their fair share of horses.
What else of note: Did you know that you can ride from Bois de Boulogne to Versailles without riding any streets, well almost and ride through glorious parklands! Paris really has a tremendous amount of green space. Departing from Trocadero you can ride through Bois de Boulogne through Parc de Saint Cloud and then through Foret deomaniale de Fausses Reposes and then presto - Versailles!
Parting thought of the day/blog: Parking in Paris WTF! How do these people get out of these spots! Coming ‘home’ tonite there were two situations of comical nature. One, an entire family getting out of their car, I applauded b/c I thought they had just pulled off the park of the century. Alas, no! They were getting out b/c they couldn’t get their car out of the spot, time to walk! The other was just as entering the front door, there was a girl parallel parking her car, forward back, repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat to try and get into this tiny spot ... needless to say I could only watch for so long. Here is a photo one such example - priceless, then again here is another photo of the types of cars that you see in this neighborhood. The safest bet would be to have an amphibious car and leave it on the back of your canal boat.
